Q: mini cooper for sale?
I am looking for a site that shows me what to look for when buying a Mini Cooper. There are a lot of sites that are actually selling them but I want to know which one that I should buy.
Is there any blogs out there or something like that, that someone tells us how to buy a Mini Cooper for sale, and what to look for?

I had an interview at my local MINI dealer and the sales manager told me that the average salary is $80K per year and his top salesperson earned $160K last year. Is this realistic figure? Does anyone know if this is a good job?

A: I usually agree with satan mechanic on most topics, but for a mini dealer, this may be realistic. Many times mini is grouped with bmw and you can sell both. Minis are selling for MSRP lately, that’s a lot of money for a good salesman. The top guys in my store are over 150k, i’d say the average is close to 80k. So not entirely unrealistic.
You’ll need to know how many saleman they have, how many cars the dealer sells in a month, can you sell used cars, and the commision structure.
These questions must be answered before you can make the right descision regarding the dealer.
Q: How can I find out how much an old car is worth?
I saw this 1971 MINI Cooper 850 for sale. It is being sold for $5,400. Is this a good/fair price? I can’t find it on Nada or Kelley Blue Book.

I want to purchase my first car, I turn 17 in September. There’s a mini cooper for sale in my town for $7,477 and I really really want it. I have done a lot of research and I looked up the Kelley blue book values for the car and it says for an excellent trade in price it would be about $6,275 and for a good trade in it would be about $5,775. The car is online so I can’t tell exactly but it looks like its kinda in the middle of excellent and good condition. So how could I ask them to take the price down at least by $500? I will be the one purchasing the car and I don’t wanna get cheated out of my money. So how can I be very firm about my asking price? Also what is the best reasonable price to offer?

A: At the core, most dealers aren’t out to rip you off. But they employ experienced and aggressive salespeople who have a bag of tricks designed to maximize the salesperson’s cut and the dealer’s profit.
Here are ploys that some dealers — even the most scrupulous — may try to run on you when it comes time to buy:
The credit cozen: A dealer may say something like, “With your credit score, you won’t qualify for competitive financing rates.” This may be true. However, some dealers will imply your credit is worse than it is so you think you’ll have to pay a higher interest rate. That’s why it’s important to know your credit score before you head to the showroom.
The single-transaction strategy: Many people view buying a car as one transaction. It’s not, and dealers know this. It’s really three transactions rolled into one — the new-car price, the trade-in value and the financing. The dealer sees all three as ways to make money. Treat each as a separate transaction, and negotiate each one. If you get a new car for $200 over invoice but receive only $1,000 for a trade-in car that’s worth $2,500, you haven’t done as well as you could.
The payment ploy: A dealer might say, “We can get you into this car for only $389 a month.” Probably true, but how? In some cases, the dealer may have factored in a large down payment or stretched the term of the loan to 60 or 72 months. Focus on the price of the car rather than the monthly payment. NEVER answer the question, “How much can you pay each month?” Stick to saying, “I can afford to pay X dollars for the car.”
The financing four-flush: Some dealers have been known to call customers days or even weeks after they signed a purchase agreement to tell them that the financing fell through. It’s a crock. The dealer can know if you qualify for financing almost instantly. The goal of the later call? To sign you up for a loan with a higher interest rate because, according to them, they just found out you didn’t qualify for the lower rate. Never leave the showroom without signed contracts that spell out every detail and with every blank filled in. If you’ve got that, they can’t retreat on the financing.
The rate razzle-dazzle: It certainly sounds tempting — zero percent interest to finance a new car. However, this deal may not be the best one for your pocketbook. For starters, most financing incentives are for shorter terms, and you need a stellar credit record. With very short-term loans,
The rollover ruse: Often, it’s tempting to trade up to a more expensive car even before you’ve finished paying off the car you’re currently driving. One way that some car buyers do this is by rolling over the remaining payments on their current car into a new car loan or lease. While this isn’t illegal, it is risky. Why? You’ll end up owing more on the second car than it’s worth. In the parlance of the automobile world, you’ll be “upside down” on the vehicle. If it’s totaled in an accident or if you decide down the road to trade it in, you’ll end up writing out a big check to cover the remaining amount of the loan. Rule of thumb: Don’t roll over an old car loan into a new one.
The long-term trick: There’s nothing illegal or even deceptive about dealers offering loan periods extending out six or seven years. After all, many cars last longer than they used to, and longer loan terms mean your monthly payments are lower. Still, it’s not optimal. You’re likely to continually owe more on your car than it’s worth because your car is depreciating faster than you’re paying it off. If you’re considering a long loan period, you probably should scale back to a less expensive car better suited to your budget.
The balloon bamboozle: Similarly, some dealers will encourage you to purchase a car for unrealistically low monthly payments now but with a much larger balloon payment at the end of the loan period. In a few cases, this can be a legitimate way to finance a car. For instance, you may have just graduated and can realistically assume that your income will rise by the time the balloon payment comes due. But be wary. That big payment could hit you when you’re least able to pay it.

There is a new lease deal for the mini cooper. It is $2700 down and $199 a month. 10,000 miles for 36 months. Full 3 year warranty. That does not include sales tax. So with sales tax it would be $260 a month or I can increase my down payment and keep my monthly payments at $199. What do you think? For a car made by BMW do you think this is a good deal? One last thing, can you negotiate the down payment for a lease, while still keeping the payments at $199 (in this case)? Thanks for your help!
A: Its not a bad deal, but its not a great deal by any means i dont think… heres the math behind it.
leasing the mini you pay 2700 up front, and then 260 a month for 36 months. this = 12060
if you buy it, you pay zero down, and at msrp of 19500, you pay 341.90 a month (8% interest) for 72 months. After 36 months, you will pay 12308.
lease, 12060
Buy, 12308 (after 36 months, you will still owe, 10641.43)
Of course this is dependent on your credit, and whether you actually want to buy a 2011 mini, versus leasing one. I would consider purchasing it, over leasing becase in 36 months, its only 300 dollars difference, and you have no mileage restriction or penalties.

I am going to go pick my car up from the dealership next week…And I want to get some advice from someone to see if I got a good deal….It’s a 2003 Mini Cooper with 12,000 miles on it and I got it for $11,400.00 The car is in perfect condition (well thats what the car sales man said and I looked at pictures of it) What do you think?

according to the auction report 2006s go for about 10500-12000 depending on the options and miles
2003s with 40k-55k go for 6500 -7900
so paying 11400 is not a great deal but it is ok deal for me

Q: I bought a Mini Diesel, should I sell it?
I bought a Mini Cooper Diesel 2007 model only one week ago private sale for £8500. It is a lot sportier than the diesels in that price range with 17 inch alloys and has the chilli pack so does look nice. its done 45,000 miles and with petrol prices high this diesel is great cos it does 68mpg and road tax per yr is £35.
On the way home from collecting the car my brother says well why dont you re-advertise it for more as a tester so I did at £1200 more than I paid for it. I now have a serious buyer who wants it at £9700 which i guess is great because of the profit but im then left without a car. I could get an older mini 2003 petrol for £4000 which does 50mpg and put £5700 into the bank but road tax is over £100 and ill be spending a little more per year on running costs or keep mydiesel despite potentially making £1200 profit in a week.
I only want a mini,im happy with mini’s so dont want to look at alterntative cars if i sell the diesel.
What do u think i should do?
A: You are talking about the major cash difference, and it is more than hard to make up in the difference in expenses. Plus, it is going to be more expensive OVER TIME, and not right now.
Also, I’ve heard that the tax for cars over 8 years is really low in UK. If you intend to keep the petrol one from 2004 for awhile, even the costs will not be that high.
And of course, in my book, petrol beats diesel, especially in the small cars. Besides, if you drive vigorously, a small diesel doesn’t waste that much less fuel than the petrol.

Second hand items will always be cheaper (usually) but always be sure to check the unit out thoroughly before using. Hygene regulations apply, and the operator will legally require a foundation certfication in food hygene. (1 day course)

A friend told me a story about someone selling a car on ebay ( a mini couper) starting the bid at $2,000. He did not disclosed that it was a control remote car. People paid $12,000 for the car. Could this person be sue by not disclose full information? Was he violating federal consumer laws?
A: This story sounds apocryphal. There were cases of people selling empty X-Box cartons, but nothing like a car that I’ve ever heard of.
To list a car on eBay Motors, a VIN number is required. A careful buyer will ALWAYS check for liens on the car using that VIN, as well as the accident history.

Ok I want to buy a 2005 Mini Cooper S with 38,200miles for 19,500.00 from a private party, but when the time comes to go to the DMV to tax it if I say I bought it for $10,000.00 does that sound unreasonable??? lol I live in Southern California and sales tax is 7.25% i think.
A: In California, they will use the higher of two figures to figure the amount you will pay in taxes, the price you say you paid for it, or the fair market value.
