Q: i need a 5 speed transmission in northeast Georgia (ford ranger)?
ASAP but can’t find one. It’s for a 2wd, 95, 5 speed, ford ranger. Any one out there near here have one for sale reasonable or know where to find one.

A: Ah, the dreaded M5OD tranny. I have had to replace a few, the best place to look outside of you local junksalvage yards is the local Ford off road associations, and forums. People in these groups tend to lift their trucks for off-roading purposes. Thus they REMOVE the weaker M5OD and replace them with a ZF tranny. So amoungst the group there should be a few tranny’s laying around that you can get for cheap. Look on www.ford-trucks.com (FTE) to see if anyone has one in your area. It’s a Ford forum, free to sign up, and very nice helpfull people.

Also look around for Mazda B2600 trucks, i see these things for sale day in and day out, granted it might come with the entire truck, but hey, at least you know the tranny works and it might have other mechanical goodies you can keep as spares for future use.

Q: I have a 1988 ford ranger front brakes keep locking up. does anyone have an idea what i should do to fix it???

A: I’ve run across this problem before. It is very possible your brake hoses are collapsing and not allowing the fluid to return to the system causing the brakes to lock up. Check this out. New hoses don’t cost much. Good luck!.

Q: Will a transsmision from a 2.9 6cyl auto 2wd line up and fit a 2.3 4cyl auto from both from ford ranger’s?
I need to know before I buy cause i hear that ford made alot of their parts interchangable.Please only answer if your a mechanic or have done this before because I need a detailed answer if i have to buy any thing to “convert” the bigger tranny..Also if you have a transmission or a “part” truck 4 sale leave me some contact info and I will be sure to be in contact with you..Thanks for any help from anyone who can shed some light on my problem.

A: Here’s the real deal, will that 4 cyl transmission handle the 6 power. If it is the same then the bell housing of the tranny needs to be adapted or changed to a 6. you will also need to get a PCM (computer from a 6 or it won’t start.
There is a lot of work to retro an engine but is is possible. and since you are replacing a standard motor to one that was an option it should fit fine. You might go to a junk yard and look at the two and snap a couple of pictures as some under hood devices change location.
Exhaust will have to be replaced and if you change the transmission then the drive line will need to be replaced…
That is about as detailed as I can get. As this is going to be an ongoing project.

Q: IS $1,300 a good deal for a 1994. Ford Ranger 2 wheel drive with a 4.0L engine and 134K miles on it?
I had a great car it was a 94 Toyota Celica GT I drove it for a long time but now it has 251K miles on it some break and clutch problems, it still runs great but I think it is time for that old gal to rest and let a car with less miles on it take over before she dies on me cuz I love that car. I think I came across a good deal, someone I know has a 1994 ford ranger 2 wheel drive 4.0L automatic with 134K miles on it for sale for $1,300, I looked at it and it is very nice looking and runs like a brand new truck the oil has been changed Regularly too, the only thing bad about it is they smoked in it so the cloth on the top of the cab cab is sagging and has rips in it, one dent in the door and the steering column is a little loose. as for the cloth on the top of the cab I can fix that my self, I have the fabric for it already and you wouldn’t be able to tell it was ever like that, the dent in the door isn’t that big and I can fix that my self to, it would be easy and my uncle is a mechanic and he said hi will fix the steering column for me. everyone I know tells me it is a great deal but some of them can be hard on gas, the 2 wheel drive ones are supposed get 24 mile to the gallon but I don’t know cuz I never had one. so what do you think how are they on gas? are they good trucks? and is that a good deal?

A: If you are in that kind of jam, sure.

I had a 94 with that stupendous four cylinder with 8 spark plugs…got 283,600 miles from it.

With the auto trans, check out that vacuum modulator that runs from the intake manifold to the trans. If that thing leaks, you get trans fluid in the engien oil. Bye-bye auto trans!

The 4.0L won’t get 24 MPGs, especially on that is 17 years old now. 20 MPGs HWY if you take it easy when possible.

I got the truck from my son, Kristofer Miller, 4of 2001. About 4 months later, after having it weighed, measured to make sure it doesn’t fo past some code for Calif., some crap head decided to break into my truck at a grocery store. When we got back into the truck, we’d reralozed it had been vandalized. Yesm we made a police report. Now, after years of using it to haul brush off of the property, helping pull out tree stumps, I need to get it registared into my name, so that I can drive it on the street. He bought it from one of your lots, in Henderson, Nev. I called and the girl that was helping me, Charisse, coild only access the archives, back to 2005. I need a copy of the sale of the truck, so that I can call DMV in Nevada to request a copy of the papers I need to file a lost registration form. It is a 1995 Ford Ranger XLT. The last 6 numbers of the Vin are BO5837 It was sold to Kristofer John Miller [or just J]. He as living in Las Vegas at the time, as he is in the Air Force. After that he went to Indiana for 4 years and is now in Puyallup, Wash.

Q: 2000 Ford Ranger Lower Ball Joints?
Need to get my lower balls joints replaced. Mech. just said lower ball joints were bad. Do I NEED to replace the uppers too? Or can I just replace the lowers? We’re going to sell it anyhow. But figure this is an important thing to get fixed before listing it for sale. But wanted to know if replacing the lowers would be just fine, and then who ever buys it can deal with the uppers later.

Q: New Ford Ranger Price Haggling?
I’m very interested in a brand new 2010 Ford Ranger Sport. MSRP of $22,155.00 and total MSRP after all the add-ons of $24,110.00. I have to add Tax on to that as well, of 9.75%. This is the first time I’m buying a new vehicle, and my dad say I should go in and say I want it for $21,000.00 out the door, and watch them sweat. Is that ridiculous and will they just laugh at me? Or in Southern California right now with the recession and auto sales where they are, and since they 2011’s are soon to be out, is that a reasonable offer? I can definitely afford more than that, but I have no idea how to haggle down a car.

A: Your Dad is right on the money. You may not be able to buy it for that, but its a good opening offer. Don’t get in a hurry and if they start pressuring you head for the door.

Q: Need info on replacing 1996 Ranger Lower Radiator Hose?
You wouldn’t think that this would be difficult but…. My Ford Ranger 6 cyl, 3 L, has a small 3/4″ or so hose coming off the lower radiator hose, besides the large connection to the bottom of the radiator, and the large connection to the engine. Sort of a “y” looking hose. The replacement hoses listed for sale only have the large connections. What is the small branch off the hose for (this hose is original) and what do I need to do to get my hose changed?

A: Just one more way the goofball engineers make it harder for people to do their own repairs….have to buy the factory hose—at a huge price probably— if aftermarket do not match.
Small hose breaks=buy the whole hose, aftermarket don’t carry or can’t reproduce=buy the factory hose, stuck in the middle of nowhere=have the truck towed because you can’t match a 15.00 section of hose…ad nauseum.

I have a 1999 ford contour for sale. 121k miles on it. The motor runs great. Body is in good condition no rust, some paint chipping in front bumper, great on gas. Is a good running car for the money. It has a couple minor things wrong with it, small knocking noise when turning on front passengers side, and no radio in it.
