Q: Exactly how much Legspace is there in the backseat of a 2005 Porsche 911?
Anyone know the exact or about the amount of legspace in a porsche 911 from 2004-2007?
Is it like 20 cm or something?
A: I own a 2005 Porsche 911. I’m 6′ – 0″ tall and put the driver’s seat all the way back on its rails. When I do that there is NO leg space in back (The front seat-back actually just touches the back seat’s forward edge). These cars are “2 + 2″ seating. Only if the front seat passengers can put their seats forward is there any space available for rear seat passengers’ legs.
A car magazine once said that “the rear seats in a 911 are useful only for the punishment of small children.” However, those seats backs do fold down and leave room for considerable luggage back there.
Q: What does a good Porsche 911 RUF cost?
I am thinking of buying a Porsche 911 RUF as my first car, but I don’t know anything about older roadsters and their cost. Thank you!
A: Check with www.autotrader.com
Q: Why are 1999 year mddel Porsche 911’s so much cheaper than 1997 models?
I have been looking online at the prices of Porsche 911’s and I notice in the late 90’s they seem to average about Forty thousand dollars….. but then when I get to the year 1999 models the average price of a used Porsche drops considerably down to around 26K..
Why are the 99’s so much cheaper on average than the 96, 97, 98 mocels?
A: I’m not sure your premise is entirely correct, but I know why 1999 Porsche 911 Carreras are available at a nice price point. 1999 was the year Porsche went to a water-cooled engine in the Carrera. Porsche purists HATED the (Porsche code) 996s with their 3.4 litre water-cooled engines. The previous few years had been the “best of the best” air-cooled 911s – the 993s. And the 993 cars had slightly larger 3.6 litre engines.
Mind you, every 996 version of the 911 built had more power and torque than the corresponding 993 did. But the engines those first two years of production was a bit smaller and they were WATER-COOLED, for heavens sake! Is nothing sacred!
This pitched battle remains, in more subdued fashion, today. Some claim that the water-cooled cars aren’t 911s at all, but something else – dark and wet. Many proclaim that water-cooled cars are more complex (true) and that they’re heavier (not so true now).
Porsche moved to a water-cooled 3.6 litre engine and finally, today, to a 3.8 litre one for both the Carreras and the Turbo. Today’s water-cooled cars turn out much more power and torque than an air-cooled engine could. The air-cooled 1997 (993) Turbo S was the zenith of ‘air power’ at 424 HP and 400 lb-ft torque. (Note that Turbo S 911s are produced ‘now and then,’ and that the 1997 is a favorite of collectors.) The 2011 (996) Turbo S has 530 HP and 516 lb-ft torque. The one remaining 3.6 litre water-cooled 911, the 2011 GT2 RS produces 620 HP !
Q: Does anyone have a picture of someone sitting in the back seat of a Porsche 911?
Does anyone have a picture of someone sitting in the back seat of a Porsche 911? or a picture with a full occupied porsche 911?
thanks in advance
A: That isn’t actually a seat…it just looks like one but is a storage platform for groceries and luggage since there is no TRUNK..
Q: Are all porsche 911 models super coupes?
There are different models of the porsche 911. Are all of these models super coupes or just a select few?
A: All have 2 doors. Some are coupes, some are convertibles, and some are targas.
Q: If i jump start a porsche 911 da car will start but if i stop and try 2 restart da car again it will not start?
why is that the car will not start after i stop. How many years will a new porsche battery will last?
A: Da battery is no good.
Q: How much does a new a/c cost on a 1990 Porsche 911?
My compressor ceased up 2 weeks ago. I cut the belt, and I am able to drive the car with no problem. Summer is fast approaching, and I have been given a quote of $1500 for a new a/c system (around $1000 if it is just the compressor). Any Porsche mechanics out there?
A: I went to autohausaz.com. I used them to rebuild 3 german cars (2 BMW’s and a wrecked New beetle).
For your compressor: $350
Expansion valve: 30
accululator: 30
Condensor: 300
Evaporator: 400
Price comes to: $1110 for all that.
Those are all brand name parts also.
Q: Is it possible to drive a Porsche 911 (997) Carrera 4 in snow on standard tyres?
The snow would be about 3-4 inches deep on roads and i’m based in England, UK. The tyres are normal all year round tyres and not winter tyres. We don’t swap tyres in England usually as the winters don’t tend to be bad.
Any Porsche owners have experience of snow driving in a C4 on standard tyres?
Thanks for all your answers, especially Designergenes as your answer was very detailed.
A: With anything over about 4.75 inches of fresh, light weight (low moisture) snow your Porsche will become a snow plow. With over about 5 inches of old, crusty snow your Porsche will become stuck (And there’s no stuck like all wheel stuck). SO … don’t take the car out unless you know the depth and consistency of ALL the snow you’ll meet on the street.
Your 997 C4 is NOT A SUBARU. The amount of power that can be routed to the front wheel set is limited because the car is optimized for dry traction on a track. You should be aware that “All Season” tires (tyres) that aren’t good below 45 degrees F are out there on the market, along with similar rubber compound tires labeled “M + S,” or “Mud and Snow.”
If you care about your car you’ll buy tires – 4 of them – to use in the snow. If you’re going to see temperatures below 45F, you’ll get real Winter tires or even ones displaying the “Mountain Snowflake” symbol. I recommend you buy a separate set of 4 wheels to mount your snow tires on. You can get a reasonable true-running set for well under $1,000 (US) including shipping on ebay.
Q: Where is the oil filter located in a 1990 Porsche 911 carrera2?
I need to know where the oil filter is on my porsche. Is this easy to chage the oil myself of should I take it in somewhere?
A: The 964, and all air cooled 911’s will have the oil filter attached to the side of the oil tank, which is inside the right rear fender (except on the 1972 911, which is further forward), and it is easily accessible from the engine bay.
It is easy to change – the most common error will be the amount of oil needed (13 quarts). Common mistake number one is using an oil drain pan that cannot hold that much oil, typically resulting in an overrun over oil across your driveway! The second common mistake is forgetting this is a dry sump system, and over filling as a result (only to have vast amounts of smoke pour out as the oil overflows after a little driving).
You need to jack up the back end of the car, and then drain the oil from the sump… once this is empty, put the plug back in and move to the oil tank, and drain it. Once it too is empty, put the plug back in and then you’re ready to take the filter off (which will typically have a fair amount of oil in it, so it’s a good idea to keep the drain pain under the oil tank). Put the new filter on (which can take a little while to get lined up right in my experience on many of these cars).
When you refill, aim to put in about 10-11 quarts. Start the engine and let it run a little, and then check the level, adding another half to one quart until you are getting a full reading. If still not full, let it run for awhile more, and top off until you are reading full.
Easy as that!
Edit: It actually is on the oil tank, though depending on the specific model, the mounting assembly can be on the wall of the engine compartment (the oil tank is right on the other side of that wall, and the filter is connected to it).
Q: Where can I copy a key for a 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo?
I want to copy a key so that i could give a copy to someone. Is this something they do at the dealer or do I have to contact Porsche directly? If so what is the #?
Thanks that was very insightful.
A: Take a copy of you vehicle registration and you key to the Porsche Dealer along with you picture ID. The parts counter will be able to help you
Q: Why do so many races and race “leagues” use Porsche 911’s’?
I always hear that Porsche’s are technically off balance due to the motor being behind the rear axle. If this is true and I would assume causes a lot of oversteer, then how come in all types of races, you see an obscene amount of 911’s? You see some Ferrari’s and Corvettes, and BMW’s but nowhere near the amount of 911’s. Why is that?
A: porsche is a major sponsor in racing
Q: Is there a difference between the H6 and F6 in porsche 911’s?
I was wondering. I know some porsche’s like the generation before the current had horizontally opposed 6 cylinders but is the flat 6 in the new ones the same basic idea?
A: Same deal.
Q: Looking for a carseat that will fit in the back of a Porsche 911?
My car is a 1980 911 and I am having trouble locating a seat that will fit, this is my baby and would LOVE to take my kids for a spin! Any ideas?
A: I realize this isn’t helpful, but wait until they are older and can sit in front?
Having ridden in Porsche 911 years ago I’m sure its designers weren’t thinking family car when they drew up plans.
Q: Why should someone get an Audi R8 when they can get a Porsche 911?
for the same kind of $$, around 100k
Isn’t Porsche more prestigious and better handling than Audi? If you compare the brand of Audi and Porsche, there’s no comparison. When you compare the price, it’s still a bit cheaper than the audi and will always have better reselling value than an audi.
A: 911’s are a dime a dozen, very common car. The R-8’s are still rare. Audi has the same V-10 engine as a Lamborghini. I would definitely get the Audi over the Porsche.
Q: Can I drive my Porsche 911 Carrera in the Winter?
I just bought a 2002 911 Carrera Coupe and I wanted to know if I put snow tires on it, can I drive it in the winter. I live in Minneapolis.
A: Of course. Put the snow tires on all four wheels and get some expert advice on what tires to buy (Blizzack is one highly thought-of brand). Remember that your ground clearance is small, so driving over heavy, compacted ridges of snow and ice, such as plows create, could lead to your getting stuck due to high centering.
It’s an expensive car; don’t risk too much on getting through. It’s often the other drivers that get you into trouble rather than your own mistakes.
