Wife’s 2003 V6 Ford Mustang has a broken tail on it’s front passenger fender. I’d like to replace the entire thing, as I doubt glue would work to replace it’s tail. If I pop the emblem off, will it just be 3M type tape or is it bolted on? Car is pretty much flawless & don’t want to damage the paint.

A: hair dryer/heat gun, tooth picks and dental floss. the emblem has pins that go in to holes in the fender, but no screws or nuts. It is held on by a foam tape or rubber tape. warm the area up with the heat gun and work dental floss under the emblem in a sawing motion. wedge tooth picks underneath to keep the tape from sticking back down. you can also use some wd-40 on the floss to help it slide.

A: Consider getting it from a wrecking yard. Just tell them what you have–paint to match,courtesy lights, fold-up, power, etc.

A: Before doing anything call the dealer and ask them if they have key codes for your model vehicle.

Ford has a database that is shared by every dealership which contains a 5 digit key that is assigned to that particular VIN. Then they just enter this code into the key cutting machine and it cuts your key. You will still need to have them programmed at the dealer, so your car will have to be towed in. The key’s cost around $35-$40 each and the programming is another $40 or so
Be prepared to show ownership of the vehicle, like a registration and drivers license,or they won’t assist you.

Q: What engines are compatible with a 98 Ford Mustang GT?
My 98 Ford Mustang GT 4.6 L V8 has 198,000 miles on it and I’m looking to replace the engine. I want to know what engines will fit or be compatible?

A: Any “modular” engine will bolt in easily. The 5.4L is a great upgrade. You’d need one meant to bolt in a car as the ones that goes in trucks will have a higher intake on it and probably won’t fit under the Mustangs low hood. Many components of the 4.6L will interchange with most other modulars as well. The brand new 5.0L in the 2011 Mustangs would virtually bolt right in too.
Also, keep in mind a 3 valve SOHC or 4 valve DOHC 4.6L would be a good upgrade to your 2 valve SOHC 4.6L. Ford Racing sells whole or partial modular engines in multiple forms.
The older style “90 degree” 5.0L that was in production from the 60’s to the mid 90’s will also bolt into your car with 1994-95 motor mounts. This would be a relatively cheap but powerful alternative since parts are somewhat inexpensive for the older 5.0L. I’m not sure if the transmission was the same from 1995 to your 1998 but it may still be able to be bolted up. Any other engines not listed here would require extensive modification to get them to fit since they won’t be a simple bolt in.

A: Yes, It is a good opportunity to upgrade your lighting system. Honestly, try looking for a decent HID kit, the ones with slim & digital ballasts are the best. Buying a cheap one can cause damages to your car’s electric system. It can also burn within a month, a good a decent kit usually go for about 120-150$ paying less then that is in my opinion a bit risky and more then that is a waste of money.

Last one I bought was from http://www.asxhid.com/ 2 years ago and it is still working like new.

For the instalation, depending on the quality you bought, you probably have a plug and play kit so it is quite easy to install. Save money and do it yourself.

A: If you can pull the motor out see what kind it is, from there you can go to a dealer(costly most times) or go to a junk yard many have pulled them out all ready or you can do it, they will at least have a list of auto they have in the yard or should have a pretty good idea. If you insist on trying it yourself, buy a Chilton’s manual for your car, do some online research (with pictures), and buckle down. You will need to loosen the belts, remove the belts, remove the water pump, replace it, and reinstall everything. You will need to make sure that the belt is routed the correct way, or BOOM! You might also want to replace the timing belt while you’re in there. It makes sense to replace it if you already are removing it, and the timing belt is something you can’t afford to have go bad on you.
